German president to visit Russia

Germany's President Christian Wulff begins a five-day visit to Russia Monday which will include talks with his counterpart Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, his office said Friday.

"This visit is clear evidence of the extent of the political and economic links between Germany and Russia in the framework of our strategic partnership," it quoted Wulff as saying.

The trip will include visits to Saint Petersburg and Ulyanovsk, 700 kilometres (450 miles) southwest of Moscow.

Germany is Russia's leading trading partner, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited in July.
