Police made the culprit do a drug test when border officials noticed that he was acting suspiciously in a regional train to Switzerland.

Berlin -- A drug mule has been caught in southern Germany trying to smuggle almost two kilos (four pounds) of cocaine into Switzerland after swallowing 115 "bodypacks" of the drug, police said Thursday.

Police near Stuttgart made the 43-year-old West African do a drug test, when border officials noticed that he was acting suspiciously in a regional train to Switzerland.

"He tested positive and subsequent x-rays showed that he had swallowed 1.72 kilograms (3.9 pounds) of cocaine," spokeswoman Sabine Krukal said.

She added that he was then forced to excrete the packs under police supervision.

Earlier this month, a Nigerian man was caught after having swallowed 100 bodypacks containing more than a kilo of cocaine near Dresden.

Police say that the amount of cocaine smuggled in the most recent case is "record-breaking."

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, the transportation of illicit drugs by ingestion has increased drastically over past years despite the fact that it can lead to serious drug intoxication -- sometimes fatal -- especially if the pack bursts.
