DUSSELDORF - German police said Wednesday they have issued an international arrest warrant for a Ukrainian woman and a Georgian man who are suspected of robbing and murdering a diamond dealer.

The couple allegedly made an appointment a month ago with the 82-year-old merchant in his Dusseldorf apartment, stabbed him to death and made off with jewellery, diamonds and paintings worth more than 10,000 euros.

The woman suspect, 20, and the man, 34, fled to the Dutch city of Amsterdam the same evening and caught a plane to Ukraine.

Police said they had contacted their Ukrainian and Georgian counterparts. Neither nation normally extradites its own nationals abroad.
