Berlin (dpa) - Police found the body of a newly-born baby hidden in a freezer in the German town of Graefenhainichen, prosecutors said Sunday.

The baby was discovered on Saturday in the home of the baby's 27- year-old mother after police were alerted by her former partner.

The woman told police she gave birth to the stillborn baby on the toilet in May and hid it in the freezer after wrapping it in a towel and placing it in a plastic bag.

Police said the woman was not under arrest, but placed under psychological care pending the outcome of an autopsy to determine the cause of the baby's death.

Last month, a similar case made headlines in Germany when a 2- year-old under the care of the social services was found dead in the refrigerator of his drug-addict father.
