German police arrest Italian double murder fugitive
German police said Friday they have arrested an Italian fugitive convicted for killing his sister and her brother-in-law in Sicily more than 25 years ago.
The man, 54, was captured at an Internet cafe in western Germany's Ludwigshafen on Wednesday, a day after German police were tipped off on his whereabouts by their Italian counterparts.
"Investigators located the fugitive at lunchtime and he was arrested without putting up any resistance," said police in a statement.
The fugitive, identified by Italian police as V. G., had gone on the run in May after he was convicted following new testimony given by the victims' children.
It emerged that the man had killed his sister for fear that she would report him to police for having raped her daughter, then seven years old.
The second murder happened over a 13-million-lira loan from the fugitive to the victim, Italian police said.
The captured man is in custody pending extradition to Italy.
