German official unemployment rises to 7.2 pct in December
The German unemployment rate rose to 7.2 percent in December when the unadjusted number of people out of work increased by 85,000 to 3.016 million, the national labour office said on Tuesday.
The unadjusted rate, which is used as the basis for public debate, had stood at seven percent in November.
For all of 2010, unemployment in Europe's biggest economy fell to 7.7 percent however from 8.2 percent one year earlier.
When corrected for seasonal effects, the standard used by economists for comparisons, the unemployment rate in December remained at 7.5 percent, the labour office said.
That was in line with an average analyst forecast established by Dow Jones Newswires.
