German new car sales up in March: data
New car registrations in Germany, a key measure of demand in one of the most important sectors of Europe's top economy, rose strongly in March, the VDA industry federation said Thursday.
A total of 323,100 new cars were registered last month, an increase of 9.0 percent over the figure for the same month last year, VDA said in a statement.
"The first quarter of 2015 has gone very well," said VDA president Matthias Wissmann.
"Demand for new cars is currently dynamic. Particularly pleasing is the fact that sales to private customers rose by about 5.0 percent in March."
A total 550,700 cars rolled off German production lines last month, an increase of 5.0 percent year-on-year, VDA said.
The number of new cars exported also increased strongly, rising by 8.0 percent to 427,300 units.
