FREIBURG - A woman gave birth to a baby boy in a car at a busy downtown intersection,  stopping traffic in the Black Forest city of Freiburg and turning a few heads.

She had been on her way to a maternity ward when she informed her husband the baby was on its way and he must stop the car at once.

Frantically seeking assistance, the husband found a passing midwife who delivered the boy as traffic backed up in all directions and police officers arrived to soothe the jangled nerves of the new father and irate drivers.

Mother and son were later reported to be in good condition at a local hospital.
