German inflation at 1.0 percent in April: statistics

German inflation stood at 1.0 percent in April, final figures released on Tuesday by the national statistics office confirmed, as moderate pay levels and household consumption dominated the economic landscape.

The result marked a slight decrease from average consumer price increases of 1.1 percent in March, when an early Easter holiday temporarily boosted the cost of hotels and transportation.

On a monthly basis, prices declined by 0.1 percent as well, and analysts expect inflation to remain moderate this year amid an uncertain recovery that could be hampered by the eurozone debt crisis.
