German industrial production decreased in September, weighed down by falling activity in the manufacturing and construction sectors, the economy ministry said on Friday.

The ministry calculated that factory output contracted by 1.1 percent in September compared with a month earlier, corrected for seasonal factors.

It was the second consecutive monthly decline after output dropped by 0.6 percent in August.

Manufacturing output was down by 1.4 percent month-on-month and construction output fell by 0.9 percent, while energy output edged up by 0.3 percent, the ministry said.
