German foreign minister to visit Tokyo: source
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle is to visit Tokyo on Saturday for a one-day visit three weeks after Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami, a German government source said.
Westerwelle aims to "express his solidarity with the Japanese" following the catastrophe, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday became the first foreign leader to visit Japan since the March 11 quake.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke by phone with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan on Wednesday to express her condolences and offer the use of robots at the troubled Fukushima nuclear power plant.
Westerwelle was in Beijing on Thursday and will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on Friday.
