At least four people were feared dead in Germany on Tuesday after several days of floods in large parts of the country, authorities said.

Over the weekend one man drowned after his canoe capsized in Lower Saxony, while another perished while kayaking in Pforzheim near Stuttgart in the southwest.

On Saturday two people reported seeing a lifeless body in a river in Waiblingen in southwest Germany, but police said no body has been recovered yet. They suspect it may have been a homeless person from the area.

On Monday a motorist attempted to drive across a bridge closed to traffic to get to work. His car was swept away and the man is feared dead after the empty vehicle was recovered.
