Germany's wheelchair-bound finance minister will not take part in the forthcoming meeting of the group of 20 industrial nations after his doctor advised him not to fly, his office said on Wednesday.

Doctors have told Wolfgang Schaeuble not to take the long flight to Washington as he continues his convalescence from a recent routine operation, his spokesman Michael Offer said in a statement.

"He will work as normal in the ministry and fulfil his appointments," Offer added.

Joerg Asmussen, junior finance minister, will replace him at the annual meetings of ministers and central bank governors from the G7, the G20 and the International Monetary Fund, which take place this weekend.
