LONDON - A film about the final days of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler has become the highest grossing German film ever released in Britain, it was reported on Friday.

'Downfall' ('Der Untergang'), depicting Hitler's last days in his Berlin bunker, will have taken in excess of GBP 1.3 million pounds (EUR 1.9 million) at the British box office by Saturday, the Press Association said.

Swiss actor Bruno Ganz has won praise for his performance as Hitler.

The film has been accused of humanising the Nazi leader, but British critics have hailed it as "riveting", "stunning" and "honest."
