German defence minister quits after plagiarism row

Germany's popular Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, stripped last month of his doctoral title after accusations of plagiarism, said Tuesday he was resigning.

"I thank the chancellor for her support," the conservative zu Guttenberg, 39, told reporters in Berlin. "But I have reached the limits of my strength."
