German court forces mother to reveal child's real father
A German court said Wednesday women can be forced to reveal the identity of the father of a child conceived in secret affairs.
The ruling at the Federal Court of Justice followed a complaint by a man seeking to recoup 4,575 euros ($6,220) in child support for an infant that he later discovered was not his own.
After splitting up with his partner, the man had paid the money to support the child, born in January 2007 and who the man believed at the time to be his own child.
He was forced to take legal action after the mother refused to reveal the biological father's name.
"The defendant owes the plaintiff, in good faith, information about the person who was present at the time of conception," the court in the southwestern city of Karlsruhe said in a written statement.
