6 August 2007, Karlsruhe, Germany (dpa) - A German employee at the Algerian embassy in Berlin was been charged with espionage, the federal prosecutor's office said Monday.

Karlsruhe, Germany (dpa) - A German employee at the Algerian embassy in Berlin was been charged with espionage, the federal prosecutor's office said Monday.

A statement said the 44-year-old man is accused of providing the Algerian intelligence service with information on the activities of Algerian government critics in Germany.

The man, who is of Algerian descent, had been in contact with the intelligence service since the end of 2005, the prosecutor's office said.
