Munich (dpa) - German business confidence improved in October after declining for three months in a row, the closely watched ifo survey released Wednesday showed.

The Munich-based ifo economic institute said its monthly survey of 7,000 executives rose to 105.3 points from 104.9 points in September.

The increase showed that the recovery of Germany's largest economy would continue, said ifo chief Hans-Werner Sinn.

Analysts had predicted the index, which is considered one of Europe's key economic indicators, would dip back this month.

The index hit a 15-year high of 106.8 in June.
