German, Polish president to meet in Passau

PASSAU - The presidents of Poland and Germany, Aleksander Kwasniewski and Horst Kohler, are scheduled to meet Friday in the Bavarian city of Passau.

It will be the second meeting between the two. Kohler went to Poland, which formally joined the European Union in May, after taking office 1 July breaking a tradition under which a newly named German president travelled to France on his first international trip.

The two leaders have been invited to Passau by a publishing group that puts out regional newspapers in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovakia. Bavarian state president Edmund Stoiber also is expected to attend the meeting.
