German Metro unveils 900 domestic job cuts
The biggest German retail group, Metro, said on Friday it will cut 900 jobs at its Metro Cash & Carry division.
The group's biggest unit, which employs more than 100,000 people in 30 countries, will regroup some German activities and close the headquarters of its C&C Schaper unit in Hanover, northern Germany, a statement said.
Around 900 jobs would be cut from the more than 15,000 throughout Germany.
Metro is restructuring its operations and plans to offer new services to boost its flagging profits.
It suffered in particular last year from weaker sales in central and eastern Europe, a region it has invested heavily in.
