The incident comes just two days after a new coalition of police, Internet providers, financial groups and NGOs was launched by the EU to tackle the growing flow of child abuse pictures distributed online.

Berlin -- Police raided the parliamentary offices of German MP Joerg Tauss on Thursday on suspicion of child pornography offences, his office said.

Authorities in the southwestern city of Karlsruhe have launched an investigation. Berlin police searched Tauss’ offices in the Bundestag lower house.

The Bundestag earlier stripped Tauss of his immunity.

Tauss, 55, is a member the centre-left Social Democrats and has been a Bundestag MP since 1994.

As well as working for the committee on education, research and media affairs, Tauss has been the general secretary of his party in the southwestern state of Baden-Wuerttemberg since 2005.

The incident comes just two days after a new coalition of police, Internet providers, financial groups and NGOs was launched by the European Union to tackle the growing flow of child abuse pictures distributed online.
