Germany's GDP grew 0.7 percent in the third quarter, the government's statistics office announced Friday, revising second-quarter growth to 2.3 percent from 2.2 percent.

The slowdown had been expected after a strong rebound in the second quarter, a 20-year record.

The global downturn hit Germany, the world's second-biggest exporter after China, especially hard as demand for its goods dried up. In 2009, it suffered the worst recession in 60 years with GDP contracting 4.7 percent.
