German Afghan commander warns on Koran burning
The commander of German troops in Afghanistan said Thursday that the burning of the Koran by a US church would endanger the lives of foreign troops in the country.
"I only wish this wouldn't happen, because it would provide a trigger ... for violence towards all ISAF troops, including the Germans in northern Afghanistan," Brigadier General Hans-Werner Fritz told Spiegel Online.
The warning echoed comments by David Petraeus, the US general commanding international troops in Afghanistan, that American and allied troops could be targeted in revenge for Pastor Terry Jones's planned burning in Florida on September 11.
