GM names new man in driving seat at GM Europe
US auto giant General Motors said Monday the chief executive of its German subsidiary Opel Karl Stracke will take over from Nick Reilly as head of its European arm GM Europe starting from next year.
"Nick Reilly, president of GM Europe, has elected to retire in March 2012," ending a 37-year career at the US automaker, GM said in a statement.
"Karl Stracke will succeed Reilly as president of GM Europe, effective January 1, 2012."
Reilly, 61, has headed GM Europe since December 2009, while Stracke, 55, took over at Opel/Vauxhall in March this year, a position he will retain after becoming GM Europe's new chief, the statement said.
