French police obstruct journalists at EU summit
French police stopped a German team from filming protesters at the EU summit in Cannes according to German media
Cannes, France -- French police have prevented a German television team from filming protestors on the fringe of the meeting of European Union interior ministers in Cannes, France.
An accredited team from Deutsche Welle, Germany's state funded news service, had wanted to film a small group of demonstrators who were protesting the disputed immigration policy of the 27 European Union member states. Police held the team away from the scene of the protest until demonstrators were arrested and dispersed, Deutsche Welle correspondent Frank Hofmann said on Monday in Cannes.
After being obstructed for half an hour the reporters officially accredited for the summit were permitted to move freely again. Whether or not it was within the police's jurisdiction to prevent the journalists from working remains unclear.
