France's Sarkozy heads to Frankfurt for talks with Merkel
French President Nicolas Sarkozy headed to Frankfurt on Wednesday for talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and senior officials on the eurozone debt crisis, the French presidency said.
Outgoing European Central Bank chief Jean-Claude Trichet, his replacement Mario Draghi, European Union president Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso, International Monetary Fund director Christine Lagarde and the French and German finance ministers were also to take part in the "informal meeting", the Elysee said.
"No statement is planned at the end of this working meeting," the Elysee said.
Sarkozy's heavily-pregnant wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy was admitted to a maternity clinic in Paris on Wednesday, where the president briefly visited her amid speculation that she was about to give birth.
Lawmakers from the president's centre-right majority have said the president wanted to head to Germany to thrash out the details with a reluctant Angela Merkel, and it was not clear if thus would clash with the birth.
