BIELEFELD - A court in Germany Tuesday sentenced a man to life in prison for murder in a headline-making case in which a flat tyre and blood stains on a white car led police to the killer.

The convicted man, a butcher by trade, stabbed and dismembered a prostitute in a dispute over about EUR 50 last October and put her remains in the boot of his car.

He had driven only a short distance when a tyre blew out and he was forced to stop at a motorway rest area near Bielefeld.

His furtive attempts to remove the spare and tools from the boot without opening it any more than necessary and the fact that blood was splattered on the white paint job prompted other motorists to alert police.
