Kassel, Germany (dpa) - A 31-year-old farmer accused of murdering his parents told a court Monday that he fed the body of one of his farm labourers to the pigs.

The man said the worker died of natural causes two years ago, but he did not report the death because he wanted to keep the man's pension in order to pay off the farm's debts.

After the labourer died, he kept the body in a deep-freeze for five or six months before carving it up and throwing it to the pigs, the man said.

The farmer denies bludgeoning his father to death in September 2000 and strangling his mother while she was asleep in her bed four years later.

Prosecutors allege he killed his parents in order to obtain an inheritance which he used to finance his lavish lifestyle.

The accused told the court in the central German town of Kassel that his father was kicked to death by a cow and his mother died of natural causes.

Some 40 witnesses have been called to give evidence at the trial, which is expected to last until August.
