4 December 2006, Berlin (dpa) - Police opened a homicide inquiry after finding a German family of four dead Monday in a Berlin apartment. Fire-fighters had earlier been called to break down the door and check out the third-storey flat in a vast, communist-era housing estate in the city's north-eastern Marzahn precinct. The dead were described as a man, 34, and his sister, 22, both handicapped, their mother, 53, and an unidentified man believed to be her boyfriend. Emergency services were alerted after the

Berlin (dpa) - Police opened a homicide inquiry after finding a German family of four dead Monday in a Berlin apartment.

Fire-fighters had earlier been called to break down the door and check out the third-storey flat in a vast, communist-era housing estate in the city's north-eastern Marzahn precinct.

The dead were described as a man, 34, and his sister, 22, both handicapped, their mother, 53, and an unidentified man believed to be her boyfriend.

Emergency services were alerted after the two younger victims failed to show up for a therapy appointment.
