Egypt requests freezing of ex-officials' assets: Germany
The German government said Monday that it has received a request from Egyptian authorities for the financial assets of former government members and lawmakers to be frozen.
"We confirm having received from the Egyptian authorities a request for the financial assets of former members of the Egyptian government and of the Egyptian parliament to be frozen," a foreign ministry spokesman said.
He said that the German government was examining the request, which follows a similar one made to the British authorities, according to William Hague, British foreign minister.
"We will of course cooperate with this request, working with EU and international partners as we have done in the case of Tunisia," Hague said.
The request followed the dramatic resignation on Friday of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak following weeks of protests against his 30-year rule.
