Kiel, Germany (dpa) - A little boy stranded for at least three days in an apartment with the body of his grandmother has been rescued and treated in hospital for dehydration, German police said Saturday.

The grandmother, in her mid-40s, dropped dead while caring solo for the toddler, who was born in 2006.

The child's mother was absent on vacation.

Neighbours in the northern city of Kiel called police after an odour of decomposition spread in the apartment building.
