A total of 3,648 people died on German roads last year, the lowest number since records began 60 years ago, the Office of statistics said Wednesday.

The low toll came despite an increase in road accidents which reached their highest number in 11 years at 2.4 million.

The most deadly year on German roads was 1970 when 21,332 people were killed.
