The filmmaker was in Germany presenting her short film at a German festival dedicated to human rights.

Berlin -- Iranian filmmaker Narges Kalhor, daughter of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's media advisor Mehdi Kalhor, said Tuesday she had claimed asylum in Germany where she was attending a film festival.

"I was afraid there would be problems if I returned to my country, so yesterday (Monday) I applied for asylum, a day before my visa expired," Kalhor, 25, told AFP by phone from the southern German city of Nuremberg.

"I have had political problems with my father for some time. I have been living with my mother for a year and a half," she said.

Kalhor was presenting her short film The Rake -- based on Franz Kafka's short story In The Penal Colony -- at Perspektive, the first German festival dedicated to human rights.
