Court must rule in neighbors' feud over German cat
Both parties claim to own the reddish tabby cat, which goes by the name of Chico or Cheeko depending on which side of the fence it inhabits.
Hanover, Germany -- A German court is to pronounce judgment Thursday in a bitter feud between neighbors over a roaming cat.
Both claim to own the reddish tabby cat, which goes by the name of Chico or Cheeko depending on which side of the fence it inhabits.
"My boy found Chico in summer 2004 in our backyard," said the father of one family. "It has been our cat ever since."
"Cheeko is a cat that the parents of my ex-girlfriend gave me in autumn 2004," said the opponent in the town of Seelze, northern Germany. The neighbors used to go on holiday together, but are no longer on speaking terms.
The court in Hanover has heard 15 witnesses as it attempts to reconstruct the moggy's true biography.
A foster family is caring for the tomcat, which seems unperturbed by the fuss, until Thursday when judge Peter Buchmann rules.
