ISERLOHN, GERMANY - Police in Germany were investigating Sunday the shooting deaths of a man and a woman in the western town of Iserlohn during the din of New Year's Eve fireworks.

A cousin of the man said the gunman walked up to all three of them as they were standing outside a house, about 40 minutes before the New Year was to be rung in. The attacker insulted the woman, then shot all three in the head. Other witnesses heard a car drive away.

The cousin, 18, who survived with non-critical head wounds, said the attacker was a stranger to him. Police have made no arrest yet. The female victim, 32, and her boyfriend, 23, died Saturday before ambulances arrived.

New Year's Eve is the only time of the year when the public are allowed to light fireworks in Germany. In other years there have also been isolated firearms incidents, either shooting at random or targeted killings under cover of the noise.
