A French court found Continental Airlines "criminally responsible" Monday for a deadly 2000 Concorde crash, ruling it was caused by a piece of metal left on the runway by one of the US carrier's jets.

Continental maintained throughout the trial that the supersonic airliner was already in flames before it hit the small piece of titanium, which investigators said shredded a Concorde tyre which in turn ruptured a fuel tank.
