Seven children and two adults suffered injuries Thursday after a bus carrying secondary school pupils to a horseriding event collided with a motorway maintenance vehicle in northwest Germany, police said.

The bus, carrying 25 pupils in total, was sliced all along one side, seriously injuring one of the adults accompanying the children. All nine injured were rushed to hospital.

Four helicopters and 50 emergency vehicles were at the scene. The motorway took four hours to clear.
