SOFIA - A child was killed and four people were injured, including two children of German tourists, in a bombing attack Wednesday at a Bulgarian Black Sea resort.

The BTA news agency reported that the attack apparently targeted a beach operator in Obsor, north of Burgas. An explosive device blew his jeep up when the man, aged 36, turned on the ignition.

The explosion seriously injured the man, a former policeman and co-owner of a major private security company. His two-year-old daughter was killed instantly and his wife, 29, critically injured.

The two German children were passing by when the blast occurred in front of a hotel, eyewitnesses said. They were brought to a hospital with slight burns.

It was the third bombing attack in Bulgaria since early June, with 10 people injured in the first two. The Bulgarian underworld frequently settles its scores with bombs and guns in public, with blatant disregard for passers-by.

More than 60 people were killed in crime showdowns over the past three years.
