Chaos on Berlin public transport

It is the second time this year that Berlin’s rail system has been plunged into crisis.

Berlin -- Berliners were hit by chaos on their suburban train network on Tuesday after the detection of faulty brakes on one train forced most of the rolling stock to be taken out of service for repairs.

Several lines had no trains at all and on other lines trains were only running every 20 minutes, compared with every 10 minutes previously, the S-Bahn operator said, causing overcrowding and anger among commuters.

It is the second time this year that the German capital's rail system has been plunged into chaos. In late May, problems with wheels sidelined large numbers of trains, prompting the resignation of the head of the network.
