Bulgarian border police, with help from their Polish counterparts, on Wednesday arrested human traffickers trying to smuggle 30 illegal immigrants into Germany, the interior ministry said in a statement.

Following a tip-off from Polish border police, Bulgarian officers found some 30 illegal immigrants, believed to be Iraqi, hidden in special compartments of a trailer truck with Polish licence plates, the ministry said.

The truck was stopped after crossing into Bulgaria from Greece at the Ilinden-Exohi border checkpoint.

The 34-year-old Greek driver of the truck and his 35-year-old passenger were arrested, the ministry said.
