ROSTOCK - A cat burglar in Germany was invited to morning coffee on Wednesday by police officers - who found him passed out amongst bottles of schnapps in a burgled liquor store.

The 36-year-old man gained entrance to the shop in suburban Rostock before dawn by smashing a window. He had collected bags full of stolen cigarettes and liquor and apparently was about to leave the premises when he was overcome by a sudden need to take a nap.

"The owner arrived to find the suspect snoring peacefully on the floor, surrounded by empty miniature 4-cl bottles of apple-flavoured schnapps," a police spokesman said.

"Suspect was invited to accompany investigating officers to the station for booking and a complimentary cup of coffee," he said.
