LONDON - A bomb threat Monday diverted a Singapore Airlines plane flying from Frankfurt in Germany to New York to Manchester in northern England.

Police said the aircraft had landed safely at 11 am without a military escort.

On Thursday a British Airways aircraft flying from Berlin to London was diverted to Amsterdam after a "specific threat".

Dutch F-16 fighters escorted the Airbus A319 with 118 passengers and six crew into Schiphol airport around midday after a warning was sent to a German television station. A search by Dutch authorities revealed nothing suspicious.

Last month two Athens to New York Olympic Airways flights were diverted to airports at London and Shannon in Ireland respectively, after two separate Athens newspapers received bomb warnings.

Nothing untoward was found aboard the aircraft after searches, and they continued to their destinations.
