HAMBURG - Germany's national team manager Oliver Bierhoff, in an interview with Monday's edition of Kicker sports magazine, criticised the latest foreign player rules of the German football league DFL.

Bierhoff named last week's DFL ruling to allow an unlimited number of players from non European football union (UEFA) countries at each club "a joke" because at the same time no limit was set for team rosters.

"I would have preferred if they had introduced a little more national character to the clubs," Bierhoff said.

Bierhoff said the so-called "local player" rule calling for 12 German players in each roster meant nothing because there is no limit for club rosters.
