BERLIN – Berlin has agreed to hand over to US authorities details of passengers making trans-Atlantic flights as part of monitoring suspected terrorists, the German Interior Ministry has announced.

Berlin’s decision to agree to Washington’s request comes despite concerns expressed in Germany about the implications for the privacy of passengers.

The German move follows a European Commission agreement reached in December to provide the US with information about passengers boarding flights for the US.

The information requested by Washington is understood to include credit cards details, E-Mail and other contacts as well as meal preferences.
