Berlin soon to dispatch ambassador to Iraq

13 July 2004 , BERLIN - Germany's current charge d'affaires to Iraq, Bernd Erbel, will be formally accredited in the next few days as German ambassador to Iraq, the Germany foreign office said. Germany, which opened diplomatic relations with Baghdad in 1974, closed its embassy during the 1991 Gulf War. Germany has had a charge d'affaires in the country for about a year.

BERLIN - Germany's current charge d'affaires to Iraq, Bernd Erbel, will be formally accredited in the next few days as German ambassador to Iraq, the Germany foreign office said.

Germany, which opened diplomatic relations with Baghdad in 1974, closed its embassy during the 1991 Gulf War.

Germany has had a charge d'affaires in the country for about a year.
