Beiersdorf confident after better-than-expected sales
Beiersdorf, the German maker of Nivea hand cream and Hansaplast plasters, said Thursday it was confident for its business outlook this year after sales grew in 2014.
"2014 was a successful year for Beiersdorf," said chief executive Stefan Heidenreich.
"Once again we recorded clear sales growth and increased our market share. The stability and strength that Beiersdorf has achieved makes us confident about our outlook for 2015," he said.
But Beiersdorf was "aware of the growing macroeconomic challenges in individual markets and (was) monitoring them closely," Heidenreich added.
Overall group sales grew by 2.3 percent to 6.285 billion euros ($7.4 billion) in 2014, beating analysts' expectations.
The numbers cheered investors and Beiersdorf shares were the biggest gainers on the blue-chip DAX index on Thursday, adding 4.8 percent in a generally firmer market.
