HAMBURG - A German radio DJ on Wednesday launched an petition drive to have a street in Hamburg named for the Beatles, who got their start in this city in 1962.

"We need a Beatles Strasse," said Stephan Heller of Hamburg FM station Radio Oldie 95.
"Other cities have names streets and squares after them," he added. "There's even an airport named for them. Hamburg is where they became famous, so we should honour them too."

The lads from Liverpool played gigs at the now-defunct Star Club in the Reeperbahn red-light district of Hamburg in 1962, helping to propel them to international fame.
