BUECKEBURG - The German army is conducting an inquiry into binge drinking and pornographic photos taken in the showers of a training camp, a defence ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

The daily newspaper Die Welt reported on Friday that male and female soldiers photographed one another while acting out sex scenes from movies at the army helicopter gunnery school in Bueckeberg, northern Germany.

Army personnel had also got themselves blind drunk at parties at the base. Die Welt said seven personnel had been transferred as a result.

The inquiry followed a complaint to Germany's ombudsman for the armed forces. In Berlin, a spokesman confirmed the report. He said all persons had taken part in the activities voluntarily. The inquiry had yet to be completed with a report.
