Zusmarshausen, Germany (dpa) - Two officers narrowly escaped injury at the hands of an enraged and drunken husband wielding a running chainsaw, police in the southern German state of Bavaria said Tuesday.

The officers were called to the home of the 42-year-old man in the town of Zusmarshausen, east of the state capital of Munich, by his wife after he refused her entry on Monday evening.

The 45-centimetre-long blade of the chainsaw narrowly missed the head of one officer, who fended off further attack with a wooden pole.

The officers overcame the man with pepper-spray before arresting him on a charge of attempted murder.
