BERCHTESGADEN - Two women's World Cup events that were to be held in Germanys Berchtesgaden next weekend have been called off and moved to Santa Caterina in Italy instead.

Bettina Rasp of the local organising committee of the races said that the area had too little snow and too warm climate. We can't guarantee a stable surface for the race," she said.

A giant slalom (8 January) and slalom (9 January) event were to have been held in Berchtesgaden.

Santa Caterina, where the forthcoming world championships will be held, will already hold two World Cup events on Thursday and Friday. These events were originally planned just before Christmas in Val d,Isere, but also had to be cancelled.

Organisers of the event in Berchtesgaden had hoped that the venue would be ready to hold the races, but rain and higher temperatures had forced the cancellations. The last World Cup event in the town took place in 2002, while the planned races in 2003 were also called off.
